after going broke from buying clothes.. BAGS.. SHOES.. (when will i ever get enough of this two.. hahah..) and random little things.. i got myself two books! (: felt so bored the whole holidays without my two tutees to occupy my time.. besides playing bejeweled like 50% of the time when im ao.. and surfing random blogs.. i basically didnt do much the entire holidays! then suddenly when school's starting next week.. i feel like watching 下一站, 幸福 and to just snuggle in bed and read (:

Duet by Kimberley Freeman
grabbed this off the shelf at times bookfair.. the books were cheappp! mostly ranging from 5 to 10.. but mostly old titles.. haha this book is HUGE.. its like bigger than a4 size when its opened. haha as usual...book covers attract me and so does the summary at the back..(:

Two Women
In a tiny German village, young Ellie nurtures glittering fantasies of the opera stage. Her uncontrollable ambition sets her on a path of deception, greed and regret. In London, teenage runaway Angie transforms herself into Penny Bright, darling of the pop scene. But a violent attack leaves her crippled by fear and drug addiction.
Twenty Years
One will steal the other’s life and lose her greatest love. One will try to run from her past but will ultimately have to confront her darkest memories. But both of their lives are linked through the ambitious schemes of a record producer.
One Guilty
Secret From the London glam-rock scene to the opera stages of Europe, from a
remote Greek island to the sun-drenched coast and silent outback of Australia, this duet’s final notes will not be sung until the heart-stopping climax, when a shadow from the past returns to claim them both.

Handle with care by Jodi Picoult

haha wasn't the book i wanted to buy at first.. spotted Change of heart at first.. second time i picked up that book cos i really like the summary at the back.. (: but there was no sale ): then came across this book.. which happens to be her latest book.. on sale at rm25.. so i guess why not! (: the summary sounds great too (:

When Charlotte and Sean O’Keefe’s daughter, Willow, is born with severe osteogenesis imperfecta, they are devastated – she will suffer hundreds of broken bones as she grows, a lifetime of pain. As the family struggles to make ends meet to cover Willow’s medical expenses, Charlotte thinks she has found an answer. If she files a wrongful birth lawsuit against her ob/gyn for not telling her in advance that her child would be born severely disabled, the monetary payouts might ensure a lifetime of care for Willow. But it means that Charlotte has to get up in a court of law and say in public that she would have terminated the pregnancy if she’d known about the disability in advance – words that her husband can’t abide, that Willow will hear, and that Charlotte cannot reconcile. And the ob/gyn she’s suing isn’t just her physician – it’s her best friend.

all this reminded me of a really really great book..

The Pact by Jodi Picoult

For eighteen years the Hartes and the Golds have lived next door to each other, sharing everything from Chinese food to chicken pox to carpool duty-- they've grown so close it seems they have always been a part of each other's lives. Parents and children alike have been best friends, so it's no surprise that in high school Chris and Emily's friendship blossoms into something more. They've been soul mates since they were born.
So when midnight calls from the hospital come in, no one is ready for the appalling truth: Emily is dead at seventeen from a gunshot wound to the head. There's a single unspent bullet in the gun that Chris took from his father's cabinet-- a bullet that Chris tells police he intended for himself. But a local detective has doubts about the suicide pact that Chris has described.

Best part of this book... great ending (:
